Weighing only 340 grams, the 9031 packs a very serious punch when it comes to portability vs functionality. With a jaw width of 38mm, the 9031 is one of the widest opening jaws in its class and as it is only 218mm long, can easily fit most pockets.

Bahco Gravity Clamp, Steps and Workbench All-In-One

Bahco have created one of the quickest and easiest to use workbenches designed for holding or clamping an item while working. The Bahco Gravity Clamp works by allowing gravity to do most of the work. Place the material between the jaws and the weight of the clamp and the material force down on the legs pushing them apart and tightening the grip on the clamp jaws.

When you have finished working, just push the legs together to release clamp jaws and remove the material. Due to the clever design, they can also be used as step ladder to give you that little extra reach when you need it.

Stanley Rotator Ratchet Socket Set

You have a nut or bolt to tighten/loosen and it is in the most awkward of places. You can barely get a ratchet and socket on to it but there is no room to swing the ratchet arm. The Stanley Rotator ratchet is the perfect tool for the job.

Instead of swinging the arm left and right to tighten or loosen the nut/bolt, with the Stanley Rotator, you simply twist the handle clockwise then anti-clockwise and this action translates to the socket on a 4-1 ratio (4 turns of the handle = 1 turn of the socket).

Not only is this easier to use in confined spaces, it also allows greater control of the tightness of the nut/bolt. The Stanley Rotator still works perfectly fine as a standard 1/4" ratchet and socket but the added twist makes it so much simpler to use.

The sockets snap on to the Rotator the same as usual but to remove them, there is a push button on the back of the head, press - pull - release.

To view more details or to purchase the Stanley Rotator, visit: http://www.transtools.co.uk/store/prod_10595/engineering-automotive/ratchets-and-bars/stanley-0-94-607-fatmax-rotator-ratchet-socket-wrench-1/4in-drive-11-piece.html

Wallrock Thermal Lining Paper - It IS Rocket Science

Erfurt Mav Wallrock Thermal Liner has been designed using technology originally developed for aerospace and using this 'know how', have combined it with the established Wallrock Fibreliner to give one of the best thermal lining papers available.

Not only does the Wallrock Thermal Lining Paper give up to 36% energy savings, it can reduce room warm up times by as much as 65%. This means that your room will be warmer in far less time allowing you to reduce the heat and make savings on that all important energy bill.

So how does it all work? When a room has been lined with Wallrock Thermal Liner, it reflects warm air back in to the room from all the wall surfaces, therefore keeping the heat in and warming the room quicker. When used with a thermostatically controlled heating system, it reduces the energy required to heat the room. If a thermal liner is not used, a great majority of the energy is used to heat the walls before the room starts to heat up.

Along with the energy saving potential, the Wallrock Thermal Liner can also stop mould from forming by increasing the surface temperature of the wall therefore preventing condensation which is how mould can form.

The Wallrock Thermal Liner also has a high degree of noise and sound absorption and this corresponds to the acoustic performance of a 5mm thick velour carpet.

With all these properties, it is a very good liner but to top it all off, it also covers up cracked and damaged walls with ease. Due to the elasticity in the flexible fibres, the 3.5mm thickness of the liner itself and combines with the Wallrock adhesive, it is able to cover damaged walls very well.

Lining Paper with Warmth - Polystyrene Insulation

Mav Wallcoverings now have the ultimate in lining papers, the Polystyrene Insulated Lining Paper, a laminated polystyrene on one side and a 1200 grade lining paper on the other.

Until recently, when it came to decorating, polystyrene insulation has to be applied to the wall and then a lining paper had to be hung before painting could commence. Now there is an all-in-one solution that is ready to hang in one go. As it is twice the thickness of most regular polystyrene rolls, it offers very good insulation and warmth.

It is suitable for covering damaged walls and surfaces without the need to fill or patch up first and is also resistant to damp and mould formation. It is CFC free and also fire retardant making it perfectly safe for use in the home. The rolls are 56cm wide and are 10 metres long giving a wall coverage of 5 square metres.

Window Packers

When fitting windows or doors, 95 percent of the time, the door or window is just not quite plumb and needs levelling out or the hole is just that bit too big. Window packers are the answer.

So what are window packers? - Simply put, they are small pieces of moulded plastic ranging in thickness from 1mm up to 6mm. They are colour coordinated so that choosing the correct size is easily done just through the colour. 1mm - Green, 2mm - black, 3mm - white, 4mm - grey, 5mm - blue and 6mm - red.

Used in conjunction with each other, different size gaps can easily be packed and with this combination, gaps of larger than 6mm in size can be filled or levelled.

Power Tools and Warranties

All power tools come with a warranty of some kind but it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Most trade power tools are designed to be used on site for hours at a time, 5 days a week and are designed and warranted for this type of operation whereas DIY power tools are only designed to be used for shorter periods of time.

When you calculate the overall usage of both types of power tools, the trade versions run for an average of 960 hours per year (4 hours per day x 5 days x 48 weeks) whereas the DIY tools only run for 144 hours per year (1 hour per x 3 days x 48 weeks). These figures are based on averages and it is appreciated that some DIY tools are used much more but then the daily use of trade power tools can often be much greater.

If you equate these numbers to the warranties, trade power tools often come with just 1 year warranty but this is valid for 960 hours of use while a DIY warranty can often be up to 3 years giving 432 hours of warranty. As you can see from these figures, a 1 year trade tool warranty is better than a DIY tool 3 year warranty.

In summary, when buying power tools, having a longer warranty is only part of the decision, price and quality also factor in and these have to be considered when making the purchase.

Garden Power Tools - Battery vs Petrol

Keeping your garden trimmed, tidy and well kept is easier today than ever before not that there is such a variety of garden power tools.

What are garden power tools and what is the difference between petrol and battery powered tools?

The biggest difference between the two are down to raw power, the petrol powered garden tools are generally more powerful but as they have an engine generating the power, they are far noisier. On the other hand, the battery garden tools are quieter but as a battery only has so many watts of power, they are generally not quite as powerful.

One factor that would weigh in favour of the petrol garden power tools is the fact that it only takes 2 minutes to refill the petrol tank and the tools is back in operation, whereas the battery will have to be recharged and this could take anything from 15 to 60 minutes depending on voltage and amps.

Buy Power Tools Online Securely

We have been selling power tools online for several years and and one thing customers have always been worried about is that credit card or personal details were not secure or the website in question was not who they claim to be. We have always used SSL for our online transactions but as the address bar only changed to blue and not green, some customers did not feel totally secure.

To give our customers the best feeling of security, we have updated our SSL certificate to a VeriSign Pro EV Certificate ensuring the address bar goes green. VeriSign are one of the leading companies who specialise in SSL (secure socket layer) certificates, this ensures that online date is encrypted to protect customer data whether it be personal address details or credit card details.

SSL is an encryption algorithmic protocol which takes the data from a website, encrypts it, sends the data to the recipient and then decrypts it. This means that should someone intercept the date on route, it would not be legible.

Most online retail websites use SSL and usually the minimum of 40 bit encryption (The higher the bit rate, the more encrypted the data). Good retailers insist on 128 bit encryption giving a more secure site and more confidence for the customer.

When a website enters a secure area, a padlock appears and the address bar changes colour to indicate the security of that website. Red is NOT secure and could possibly be a fraudulent website, Blue is secure and usually entails at least 40 bit encryption or a self certified SSL certificate, Green is the highest, this means that the company and the website have both been vetted and the certificate that is issued indicates this.

Here at Transtools, we have a VeriSign Pro EV Certificate and when entering our personal details or credit card details, you are in a secure area and the address bar will go Green to indicate this.

To shop with confidence for power tools or hand tools, visit our website: www.transtools.co.uk

Plumbing Tools - Monument BCM35 Copper Pipe Bender

When it comes to plumbing tools, one of the most commonly used tools is the pipe bender. Pipe benders come in a variety of different styles from hand benders to floor standing bending machines. Most pipe benders work in a similar way, the pipe is held in place by the dies, clamping block and forming die, the guide is then pulled around the pipe and forming die creating the bend.

Due to the recent recession, more and more imported cheap and poor quality plumbing tools are entering the UK market and this is making British made products appear to be more expensive than they really are. Monument Tools still manufacturer pipe benders here in the UK and are proud of the high build quality and performance they achieve. All the pipe benders for both copper and steel meet the EN and BS standards of quality required for plumbing tools in the UK.

The latest model from Monument is the BCM35 Copper Pipe Bender. It is capable of bending copper pipe in sizes 15mm, 22mm, 28mm and 35mm diameter. As standard, it is supplied with formers and guides for the 15, 22 and 28mm pipe but the optional 35mm former and guide kit can be purchased if required.

The formers have been precision machined and this gives them total accuracy when bending pipes. The BCM35 has an adjustable vice mount allowing for a range of vices to be used.

The Monument BCM35 Copper Pipe Bender is available to buy for just £440.50 including VAT.

Hand Tools

Hand tools are classed as tools that involve the use of hands to perform work on material or other tools to carry out a task or produce a piece of work. The variety of hand tools extend from screwdrivers to saws and from glass cutters to multi tools. The extent of these tools makes categorising them difficult as cordless power tools could also fall into this category as they are operated by hand.

Since the stone age, man has formed hand tools from simple bone, flint and stone. These early tools were effective then but have evolved over the years, adapted for different tasks and improved upon to produce better results.

In this modern age, we have more materials to make hand tools from than ever before, metals that stay sharper for longer, plastics that have the strength of metal and hammers that are lighter yet wield the same force as one twice the weight.

One of the more popular hand tools at present is the multi tool, a tools designed to carry out many different tasks. Usually they have a knife blade, pliers and a screwdriver, but many have a greater range and include snips, bottle and can openers, a saw blade and even a cork screw. These multi tools offer great functionality and are easily carried with you or kept handy in the toolbox.

Fluxaf Green Paint Stripper - Environmentally Friendly Stripping

If the EU gets it way and bans all paint strippers and graffiti removers that contain DCM, then there will be a shortfall in products for this market. One product that will fill this hole is the Fluxaf Green stripping agent manufactured by Fibre Multipurpose Products Ltd. it does not contain DCM, is environmentally friendly and is biologically degradable.

Fluxaf Green is suitable for removing paint or varnish from almost any surface and as it contains no acids, lye or hazardous solvents, paraffin or preservatives, is very safe to use.

Fluxaf Green can be used internally or externally and can be applied with a brush or roller. Due it viscosity and adhesive strength, it does not drip from ceilings or walls.

Event though it does not contain DCM, Fluxaf Green stripping agent is still as affective as previous paint strippers such as Nitromors but with the added advantage of being environmentally friendly.

Paint Strippers To Be Banned? - Nitromors No More

Paint strippers including Nitromors will soon be banned in Europe if the EU legislation gets their way. Due to a key ingredient used in many paint strippers and graffiti removers, DCM (Methylene Chloride), the European Union has put forward a a proposed legislation to ban DCM and therefore all products that contain it.

The European Commission have failed to properly research the technical requirements and experience of businesses that use paint strippers and removers, and of those in building care and conservation who rely on the services of such businesses. Virtually none have been consulted.

Currently over 90% of all paint strippers and graffiti removal products on the market today contain DCM and banning all of them would leave a rather large hole in the market.

Woodworking Tools

Woodworking tools have been used since mankind first walked the earth. The first spears were sharpened with flint tools and trees were carved out with hand made axes to make boats. We have moved on a little since these primitive tools and now produce carving and woodworking tools for practically any task desired.

More modern woodworking tools are made from hardened steel and stainless steel were once the were fashioned from copper or bronze. These newer materials keep their edge better and require less sharpening. They are precision made and machined to give a better finish.

The range of woodworking tools today extend from hand saws that can cut quicker than ever before due to cleverly designed teeth on the blade allowing cutting in both directions to chisels and carving tools which keep their edge far longer than ever before and can be sharpened down to the last inch of blade.

One of the most commonly used woodworking tools is the router which, when used with the worktop jig, is often used to cut out kitchen worktops and cupboard doors.

Lining Paper - The Big Cover-Up

Lining paper is being used more and more recently instead of wallpaper as it allows the home owner to change the wall colours without having to scrape off the old paper and the re-decorate.

Lining paper comes in a variety of different grades. Grades are the thickness of paper and the thicker the grade, the more they can cover. The grades of lining paper available range from 600 grade, suitable for newly plastered walls to 2000 grade lining paper for older, more damaged walls. The most common grade of lining paper chosen is the 1400 grade as it is a good middle choice.

The secret to hanging lining paper is choosing the correct grade and also good wall preparation. Most grades of lining paper will always be able to cover hairline cracks and small chips in the wall but can never cover over any lumps. This is were good wall preparation is essential, fill larger cracks or chips with filler, sand until level and then apply the lining paper.

Another useful tip for lining your walls is to use a solution of sugar water to wash the walls after sanding to remove any residue left by the sander then a apply a coating of PVA to seal the wall and give the paste a better surface to adhere to.

At the end of the day, spending an extra few hours sanding and preparing the wall before putting up the lining paper will always result in a better finish.

Along with standard lining paper, there are special papers designed for damp walls and when used with the correct adhesive, they will prevent water marks or stains from coming through newly decorated walls.

Abus Padlocks - Security Done Right

Abus padlocks are renown as one of the best in the world. The Abus 37/60 is one of their most secure padlocks. The body and shackle of the padlock is made from hardened steel alloy and offer the highest protection against forced attacks. Inside this hardened case lies the disk cylinder for the padlock and due to it complex security system, has the highest protection against manipulation.

To help prtect the padlock further, the Abus 37/60 has a "close shackle" which means that most of the shackle which would normally be exposed when the padlock is in use, is now hidden beneath the "shoulders" of the padlock giving the term close shackle.

Other factors can affect the working efficiency of padlocks and this includes weather, usage and temeratures. The Abus 37/60 has been built to such a high standard that it will cope extremely well in all these conditions.

One of the major advantages of Abus padlocks is that they can be used in combination with chains, cables and hasps. What you must bear in mind though when using these security products is to have products of the same level of security. It would be no good using a high security padlock and hasp if the hasp is not securely mounted to the premises.

Stabila Levels and Measures

Stabila have established themselves as one of the most innovative measuring instrument manufacturers in the world today. Since creating the first folding rule over 100 years ago, Stabila have continue to innovate and design new ways to accurately level, measure and rule.

Stabila levels are one of the most accurate in the world and will maintain their accuracy for life. The vials on all Stabila levels are designed not to fog, leak or become inaccurate. If this happens, Stabila will replace providing the level has not been damaged (bent).

The range of Stabila products extend from folding rules to tape measures, spirit levels to digital angle finders and from distance measuring to laser leveling.

Stabila folding rules are designed to easily fit in the pocket and allow the measuring of longer distances than a standard single rule would allow. These have been slowly replaced by the newer tape measures, which are similar to folding rules, but coil up instead of folding.

Spirit levels are framed measuring tools with a vial of liquid (usually Ethanol) with a bubble in. When the bubble is centred in the vial, this indicated the perfect horizontal level. Stabila have a large range of spirit levels including masons levels, torpedo levels, magnetic levels, construction levels and digital levels.

Laser levels allow leveling at greater distances and reduce the time taken to measure and mark multiple locations. The newer self leveling laser levels also reduce the time taken to setup and use the levels.

Distance measuring is accomplished by bouncing a laser of a surface and calculating the time taken to receive the returning signal. Laser measures are excellent for quickly measuring rooms and offices and some can even calculate area and volume.

Power Tools - Trade or DIY?

Power tools come in a variety of different brands, qualities and prices. After checking on the internet today, I can find power tools from as little as £9.99 for a hammer drill up to over £500 for the same type of tool, albeit a better quality, more powerful tool.

What defines whether power tools are designed for the trade or DIY market? I believe that this is not as simple as it first sounds and their are more variables in this argument than initially though.

Firstly, the most important factor is reliability, trade power tools are used daily, for many hours at a time and therefore must continue to maintain their power and performance at all times.

Secondly, when power tools do break down, and they do, what warranty do the manufacturers offer and how quickly will the tools be back and running.

Thirdly, the price, when purchasing power tools, price is always a factor to consider, is it better to buy cheap and replace when broken or to spend more on a higher quality tool and and trust that it will last the distance.

When all these factors are taken into account, I ask the question again, trade or DIY? Some of the less expsensive manufacurers are now offering 2 or 3 year warranties on their power tools but does this mean that they are better power tools or are that they are only designed for the limited DIY use? An average DIY tool is used for maybe 4-6 hours a week giving a total of 208 - 312 hours usage per year and with a 3 year warranty, 624 - 936 hours use in total. A trade to is used 4-6 hours a day, 5 days a week giving a yearly usage of 1040-1560 hours. As you can see from these numbers, a 1 year warranty on trade power tools is by far better than a 3 year warranty on DIY power tools.

If it is not under lock and key, it will get up and walk away.

Kitchen Worktop Router Jigs

Fitting a new kitchen worktop is easier than it looks providing you take your time, accurately measure and practice your cuts on an old piece of worktop first.

The old adage of 'measure twice, cut once' has never been more relevant than that of cutting and routing a new kitchen worktop.

When purchasing your new kitchen worktop, always add 300-400mm extra to the length required so that you can have a practice cut before mastering the final joint.

There are two main types of joint used when joining kitchen worktops, diagonal mitre joint, usually from corner to corner and butt joint, a straight cut from front to back.

The latter requires the use of a worktop router jig as a template for accurately cutting the joint. This is were the precise measuring and careful cutting must be put into practice. If when measuring the cut, you are 1mm out on one half of the cut, remember that you may also be 1mm out on the other cut leaving a 2mm gap where the worktops join.

When using your router cutter and guide bush, always make a practice cut on an old piece so that when making the final cut on your new worktop, you are aware of where the router cutter blade and guide bush are making the cut and which side to align the guide bush to for each of the cuts.

Ryobi One Plus Power Tools and Garden Tools

Power tools are a great time saver, whether you are screwdriving or drilling, hedge trimming or grass strimming, cordless tools are a godsend. The only problem is, every time you buy new power tools, they all have a different battery and charger systems, that is unless you buy one of the Ryobi One Plus power tools or One Plus garden tools.

Cordless power tools all need batteries, so
Ryobi created the One Plus range, simply put, one battery fits all, yes all 29 power tools and all 7 garden power tools.

There are currently 3 batteries available that can power all the tools, the 1.7Ah 18V NiCad, 1.4Ah 18V Lithium Ion (slimline battery) or the 2.4Ah 18V Lithium Ion.

When buying power tools, budget is also a factor, and as you no longer have to purchase batteries with each tool you buy in the Ryobi One Plus range, you only pay for the tool which means that the cost will be lower.

Irazola Screwdriver Sets - Roll Your Tools Up

Screwdrivers sets take up so much space in the tool bag, you always end  up carrying far too many just because you don't want to find that the one you really need, you left back at the garage.

What if you could remove all the handles, this would take up a lot less space. Well, Irazola (part of the Bahco group) have also though of this idea and have produced a 13 piece VDE insulated screwdriver set, which when rolled up, is only 200mm (8") in length and 75mm (3")
across. The kit comprises of 5 flat heads, 3 pozi heads, 3 Philips heads, a neon tester and a quick release interchangeable handle, all secured in a nylon roll mat.

Fitting the screwdrivers into the handle is simple, choose the required driver and  push until you here a click, done. To remove the driver, simply twist the lock nut and remove the driver.

All the screwdrivers in this set are tested to 1000 volts and are indivually VDE stamped.

The handle itself is confortable to use and has plenty of grip due to the rubberised finish on the lower part of the handle.

Overall, this is a lightweight yet strong screwdriver kit and as there is only one handle, is considerably small and easy to carry arround.
